St. John XXIII Human Concerns Commission
Over the past 25 years, the parishioners of St. John XXIII have shown remarkable generosity, compassion, and kindness through their involvement in various outreach events coordinated by the St. John XXIII Human Concerns Commission. These events have not only brought the community together but have also made a significant impact on those in need. From organizing food drives to supporting local shelters, the parishioners have consistently answered the call to help others with open hearts and willing hands.
The spirit of giving and selflessness displayed by the members of the St. John XXIII community is truly inspiring. Their dedication to making a difference in the lives of others is a testament to the values of compassion and empathy that the parish upholds. If you are interested in becoming a part of this noble cause and contributing to the mission of outreach, we welcome you to join our Commission or sign up to participate in a specific project. Your support and involvement will not only benefit those in need but will also enrich your own life through the act of giving back to the community. If you would like to get involved, please send an email to humanconcerns@stjohn23rd.org.
Human Concerns Commission Projects
Caring Cuisine
“Caring Cuisine” is a thoughtful initiative by the Human Concerns committee aimed at providing meals for individuals in the parish who are facing challenges with cooking due to illness or injury. If you or someone you know has recently been hospitalized or injured and could benefit from this support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can leave a message for Kathy at 262-268-9511, contact the parish office at 262-284-4266 or send us an email at humanconcerns@stjohn23rd.org to inform us about the situation. Additionally, if anyone in the community is interested in contributing to this compassionate mission by volunteering or providing assistance, your help would be greatly appreciated. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
SONshine Box
The SONshine Box Project, initiated by Human Concerns, serves as a heartwarming gesture to connect with and uplift parishioners who are unwell and in need of support. By assembling small yellow shoeboxes brimming with items that are both inspirational (SON) and yellow (sun), the project aims to infuse joy and brightness into the lives of those on the prayer list. In delivering these thoughtful packages to individuals facing illness, the project not only offers comfort and encouragement but also bridges the gap of isolation that can often accompany health challenges. Through this initiative, a total of 35 boxes were distributed, signifying the tangible impact of reaching out to others in times of need. The SONshine Box Project not only spreads positivity and hope but also fosters a deeper sense of connection and care within the parish community.

Got Spare Change? It’s Baby Bottle Time!
Human Concerns is once again taking part in the Baby Bottle Project, a beloved initiative that has thrived for over 20 years. During October, you can pick up a baby bottle at any exit of the church, fill it with your family’s spare change, and return it by the end of the month. Bottles will also be available at the Parish Office. All proceeds will go to the Women’s Care Center (WCC) in Milwaukee, which supports women facing crisis pregnancies. Please make checks payable to SJ23.
We are always in need of baby items such as diapers, infant clothing, and onesies. New or gently used baby gear is greatly appreciated, but please no “expired” car seats. For pick-up or drop-off, contact Linda.
The Center may be the only support network for some women as they navigate the pressures from their parents, partners, or boyfriends due to an unplanned pregnancy. With the Center’s assistance, women can recognize the value of the life they carry and gain the confidence needed to move forward.
The Center offers a variety of services including counseling, ultrasounds, Mother Share classes, referrals, material assistance, and classes on abstinence, parenting, and breastfeeding—all at no cost. Your spare change this year will truly help mothers and babies, and YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
